Tanzania is one of the countries that has shaped me the most as a traveler, and somewhere I find myself returning to again and again. Over the past few years, I’ve spent weeks, and sometimes months, exploring different corners of the country, from the endless plains of the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater to the quieter places that many travelers overlook.

What makes Tanzania so special to me is the incredible diversity of experiences it offers. One moment you can be watching wildlife in some of the most spectacular safari destinations on Earth, and the next you can be learning from Maasai and Hadzabe communities, exploring places like Mto wa Mbu and Olduvai Gorge, or venturing into more remote regions like Ruaha National Park and Mafia Island.

Tanzania is a world class safari destination. But it’s also a country that goes far beyond the classic safari experience, layered, immersive and endlessly rewarding to explore.

Zanzibar is a place that became much more than just a destination for me. Over the years, I’ve spent months living on the island, exploring its different corners and experiencing everyday life far beyond the typical tourist perspective. For a while, I even worked as a stand up paddle instructor in the mangrove forests, an experience that allowed me to connect with the island in a completely different way.

What makes Zanzibar so special is the incredible contrast it offers. From the turquoise beaches of Jambiani and Bwejuu to the history and culture of Stone Town, every part of the island feels different. Spice farms, local markets, coral reefs and small fishing villages all add to the atmosphere and make the island feel endlessly layered.

And while Unguja Island offers plenty of beautiful and peaceful beaches, nearby Pemba Island reveals an even quieter and more untouched side of Zanzibar, one that still feels wonderfully wild and undiscovered.
